Dr. Jason Franz Selected as President-Elect of American Society of Biomechanics

CLEAR congratulates Jason Franz, professor in the Lampe Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering, on his election as President-Elect of the American Society of Biomechanics (ASB).

Founded in 1977, ASB is one of the world's leading professional organizations dedicated to advancing biomechanics research, education, and clinical application. The society brings together more than 1,000 members from a wide range of disciplines to improve understanding of human movement and biological systems through research, collaboration, and innovation.

As President-Elect, Dr. Franz will serve a one-year term before assuming the presidency, helping to guide the organization's strategic direction and support its mission to advance excellence in biomechanics research, education, and professional development.

Dr. Franz directs the Applied Biomechanics Laboratory at UNC-Chapel Hill, where his research focuses on the biomechanical and neuromuscular mechanisms underlying mobility decline, fall risk, and rehabilitation outcomes. His interdisciplinary work integrates motion analysis, biomedical imaging, wearable sensing, machine learning, and computational modeling to develop innovative approaches that improve mobility and independence across the lifespan.

As part of his vision for ASB, Dr. Franz plans to strengthen mentorship and professional development opportunities, support the society's affinity groups and regional chapters, and expand entrepreneurial training and industry partnerships to foster innovation and collaboration in biomechanics.

His election reflects both his outstanding contributions to the biomechanics community and his leadership in advancing research that aligns with the CLEAR's mission to improve rehabilitation outcomes and quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
