CLEAR Seed Grant Leads to NIH funding

In September of 2016, Jason Franz, Assistant Professor in the Joint department of Biomedical Engineering (UNC/NC State) with CS Nam, Associate Professor in the Fitt's Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (NC State) competed in the Rehab Engineering first SPEED SEED GRANT event, along with a dozen others, with a project pitch that ultimately saw them take home 2nd place in the event and earn 15K.

With data from that Seed Grant event they have successfully moved their second place finish into an NIH R56 award! The award is titled : The Sensorimotor Locus of Balanced Control in Elderly Gait.
